HORIZON
1964
The HORIZON 1964 Insurance Company is founded, through the collaboration of the insurer Christos G. Achis, with his long-standing experience and a deep knowledge of the Greek insurance market, and the Industrial & Commercial Group of Izola, with the aim of covering major commercial and industrial risks.
1969
In 1969, HORIZON 1964 Insurance Company became one of the founding members of the Hellenic Ship and Aircraft Insurance Consortium, which aimed for the Greek insurance market to enter into the international marine insurance market. In collaboration with the other companies of this consortium, it insured a significant part of Greek-owned shipping industry, which until then was insured almost exclusively from London and New York based insurance firms, with significant benefits for both shipowners and the Greek state. A typical example was the insurance of the Onassis Group by this consortium.
1970
In 1970, the British Sun Alliance Insurance Group, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, became a shareholder of the company. Also, the middle of the decade marked the entry of HORIZON Insurance into the life insurance and group pension plans sectors for the personnel of industrial and commercial enterprises.
1981
In 1981, HORIZON Insurance found itself in the position of the general agent for Greece of certain global insurance organizations, representing the Sun Insurance Office, The London Assurance and the Japanese Taisho Marine and Fire Insurance Co L.T.D. Furthermore, as the exclusive insurance partner of Gerling Allgemeine for Greece, the company insures some of the largest German industrial investments in Greece (BASF A.G, Hoechst A.G, and Bayer A.G.).
1983
In 1983, Fidentia S.A. was founded, an associated company of HORIZON Insurance, which undertakes the general representation of the aforementioned foreign companies in Greece and as a result, the group now specializes in insuring some of the largest industrial and commercial complexes in the country, such as Hellenic Steel, Hellas Can, Motor oil Group, Sony Hellas, Viohalko Group, Alucanco, 3E Coca-Cola, Papastratos S.A., and Lowenbrau, among others.
1990
In the 90s, HORIZON Insurance was leading a successful path of continuous profitability. Alongside the continuous expansion of its operations in commercial and industrial risks, which had always been the core of its activities, the need for continuous improvement and innovation led the company to gradually expand its turnover in the insurance of small and medium risks, through various acquisition networks.
1997
HORIZON Insurance dynamically entered the Bancassurance sector through a strategic partnership with Chios Bank.
1999
True to its human-centered principles and values, HORIZON stands by the side of the clients affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the Attica region in 1999, conducting immediate recording and assessment of the related damages. As a result of the immediate and unobjectionable compensation, HORIZON Insurance managed to enter dynamically the small and medium risk sector market (Retail).
2002
On the threshold of the 21st century, HORIZON Insurance, maintaining a stable course, and with high capital adequacy and continuous profitability, invested in new insurance programs and through strategic partnerships expanded the range of its activities to insure new risks. A typical example was the further strengthening of the Bancassurance sector, which is now an integral part of the company's operations, through a strategic partnership with Piraeus Bank.
2010
At the dawn of the new decade, and while the global economic crisis was at its peak, mostly affecting financial institutions, HORIZON Insurance managed, once again, to remain unscathed, mainly due to its consistently prudent strategy. With a continuous upward trajectory, managed to successfully overcome the challenges that have plagued the industry and while maintaining high capital adequacy, it planed its future development in full compliance with the strict regulations provided with the relevant European Community directive for the regulation of the insurance industry, also known as SOLVENCY II.
The company included further development as part of its strategic planning, through intermediary networks, mainly in the region, focusing on selected partnerships, which aimed to create long-term relationships of trust and respect. At the same time, by redesigning the retail programs it offered and equipping its partners with the appropriate tools managed to dynamically enter further the local market.
HORIZON Insurance invested significantly in the computerization sector, both by purchasing new programs as well as by selecting competent people with deep knowledge of the insurance market, aiming on further modernization and harmonization within the demanding environment of Solvency II.
2017
In October 2017, the first administrative branch of HORIZON Insurance began its operations in the town of Larissa (central Greece), marking the beginning of a geographical expansion for the company's network within Greece. This specific action was part of HORIZON's strategic plan that aimed at strengthening its network of partners, the qualitative geographical dispersion of its operations in the Greek region and the provision of optimal services to the local community.
2019
HORIZON Insurance, since 1964, always committed to planning gradual and profitable growth, proceeded in a new strategic investment, by creating its new administrative branch in the area of Thessaloniki (2nd largest city in Greece after Athens). The company's goal, apart from its further development, was to provide immediate, excellent and comprehensive services to both its existing and new associates, in the wider north region of Greece.
2022
The new company HORIZON 1964 Non-Life Insurance Company is created, which was the natural continuation of the previous firm. Maintaining its basic principles of Ethos, Consistency, and Integrity, HORIZON invests foolheartedly in maintaining its image as the most reliable insurance company, always focusing to serve, at the best of its abilities, the interests of its customers and associates.

HORIZON 1964 Non-Life Insurance Company calculates and publishes its SCR and MCR solvency ratios every year. The ratios are validated by the company’s certified auditor, according to the basic scenario of the Regulatory Framework, Solvency II. The results of the calculated ratios are excellent for the company every year. For the year 2023, the company exceeded all of its capital requirements arising from the Solvency II framework. Specifically, the SCR Ratio managed, for another year, to stand at high levels, at 246.7%, while the MCR Ratio reached 543.6%.
